Dear gaming friends and contacts,
First of all we hope you all are fine and in good health. It has been long since we have sent out our last communication.
Being silent doesn’t mean nothing has happened. The last 2 years we have been hoping for possibilities to organise the EC and started up each year in spite of the uncertainties. An event like the EC needs an early preparation, and each year we came to a point to decide to move forward or not. We assume that this sounds similar to some of you as well, in trying to organise gaming events, a tournament or even the national championships.
This year, in starting up again for the 2022 edition, we experienced we lost the energy and intrinsic motivation to prepare this great event. This is why we have decided to go for an early “retirement”, as we had plans to make it to 25 editions. We have organised the EC for 20 years with loads of joy and excitement. When we took over the organisation in 2000 we had to start from scratch. We began at a small games fair in the Netherlands and finally made our way back to the Spiel in Essen. We are proud that the event has grown in number of teams and different nationalities over the last decade. Looking back to Spiel 2021 and the current situation around covid, we expect that Spiel’22 will take place. But the main remaining question for us is in which form and what the effect will be on the EC. We expect the EC will not restart at the same level as in 2019. Maybe the current format is even not legible anymore and should change/adopt to the new situation. So we believe it is time for fresh new insights.
We hope someone will see this as a great opportunity to take over the organisation and likes the challenge to turn this great tournament to a future proof event. Of course we are willing to support the new organisation and share our experiences if needed. We truly hope we meet again in an updated EC!
So, if you are interested in taking over EuropeMasters organisation, let us know!
Until then, nice dice,
Ronald & Marie-José
