WELCOME TO EDO
IKI takes place in Edo during the period of the same name (1603-1868). Edo was the name of Tokyo at that time.

In Nihonbashi district, the most animated market of the city can be found.

STALLS IN THE NIHONBASHI MARKET
Near the main street, there is a fish market, where boats bring their goods and where the cries of the sellers and buyers echo.

In houses around the main street called Nagaya, live craftsmen and shopkeepers, with various skills required for the daily life of Edo’s citizens.

According to estimates, between 700 and 800 different occupations exist in Edo: fan or lantern makers, tatami weavers, printers, hawkers, tempura or sushi sellers, geishas, kabuki actors and many others are represented in IKI as cards.

HOW TO WIN ?
Live a whole year in Edo and try to become the best Edokko, « the child of Edo » by looking after the welfare and prosperity of the city and its citizens. Recruit characters from different professions, make them work in the main street of Nihonbashi and let them accumulate experience until they retire.

The winner is the Edokko who has earned the most IKI, a philosophical concept from the Edo period that is considered an ideal of life.

HOW TO PLAY ?
A game of IKI lasts 13 rounds: the first 12 represent the 12 months of the year and are played in the same way. The 13th round, the New Year, is played in a slightly different way. Each of the first 12 months is played in 3 phases:

The 1st « Lifestyle » phase, where players choose their position on the Ikizama track. The 2nd « Actions » phase, where players A) Recruit a Character or Collect their Income, then B) move their Oyakata and conduct transactions in the Main Street.

The 3rd « Event and End of Round » phase is different for each month:

The « End of Round » stage takes place every month.
The Account Balance is done at the end of months 3, 6, 9 and 12 (i.e. at the end of each season).
A Fire happens at the end of months 5, 8 and 11.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is dead. His last conscious action on his deathbed was composing the Lacrimosa movement of his Opus Requiem. You, as one of his sponsors, will meet with the widow in order to participate one last time in the funding of the works of the Austrian genius. Also you will reminisce and retell all your memories alongside Mozart, in order to make sure that she portrays you under the best light when writing her memoirs, and enter history as Mozart’s most important patron.

In Lacrimosa players will take the roles of patrons of the late musician, contributing with their fundings to the composer’s works one last time. During the game you will play in two different timelines: the present and the past. In the present you commission the missing parts of the Requiem from other composers in order to complete it. When developing past events, the game will play in five epochs in which you will contribute by buying new compositions from the composer to sell or exhibit, accompany him on the different journeys through the main courts and theatres in Europe, and gather the resources you need in order to support the musician during his career.

During the game you will be playing cards from a limited hand that you will improve as the game progresses. These cards can be played either as actions or as resource generators and players will need to optimise their resources and finances in order to support our best version of the story and our relationship with Mozart.

Nominated for Game of the Year 2023

NEXT STATION LONDON: On the road in London’s underground

The game NEXT STATION LONDON, published by HCM Kinzel, has been nominated for Game of the Year 2023. On May 22, 2023, the jury announced the winning games and the games nominated for Game of the Year. Every year, this prestigious award is given for the current year of games. On July 16, the best game will be chosen in Berlin. The prize is awarded in three categories: Game of the Year, Connoisseur’s Game of the Year and Children’s Game of the Year.

The jury’s statement: “The entertaining planning of the subway network offers strategic finesse in a small format, with a pleasingly slim set of rules. On the gradually more colorful blocks, constructs are created that fill with pride of work.” At HCM Kinzel, the joy is great. “Our collaboration with author Matthew Dunstan and Blue Orange was a good fit right from the start.” The family-owned company, based in Zaberfeld, South Germany, developed the Flip & Write game for German-speaking countries.

NEXT STATION LONDON is a thoroughly challenging representative of the Flip & Write games in which the London Underground, the oldest subway in the world, is getting redesigned. The route underneath the Thames presents a variety of challenges to up to four people aged eight and up. The goal is to connect as many landmarks in the 13 boroughs as possible. However, the lines must not get in each other’s way. Sometimes you get puzzled when the revealed maps with the route symbols do not fit.

In this way, the route network, which consists of four lines in four colors, is gradually created on the city map. Each round, a station card indicates the section of the route to be drawn. Then the pencil is changed. Thus, at the end of the game, everyone has their own four-color route network. Points are collected with the created subway lines, the tourist attractions at which they stop, the tunnels that pass under the Thames and the interchanges.

In Tiletum, you and your fellow players take on the roles of rich merchants traveling throughout Europe, from the city of Tiletum (modern-day Tielt, Belgium) to Venice, during the days of early Renaissance.

You will travel to various cities to acquire trade contracts for wool and iron and establish trade houses. You must collect the required resources to fulfill contracts, invest in the construction of monumental cathedrals, gain the favor of noble families, and participate in important fairs, where your main business occurs. You will also use the services of notable people who will be welcomed into your houses. You will thus gain prestige that will make you the most famous merchant of the early Renaissance.

Tiletum is a dice management game in which dice have a dual function: gaining resources and performing actions. A certain number of dice will be rolled each round. On your turn, choose a die to gain the number of corresponding resources equal to the value of the die, then perform the associated action. The power of the action is inversely proportional to the value of the die, so the fewer resources you gain, the more powerful the actions you take and vice versa.
