Dear gaming friends,
We hope you are all well. We would like to give you an update regarding EuropeMasters:
We are, just as probably all of you, eager and longing for the day to meet, greet and play again in a great event as EuropeMasters. However, we also notice there is still a lot unclear for the near future in what can be done and what not. Although vaccinations have been started, it is a slow process and it is expected to take months before the majority will be vaccinated.
Last year, many national championships have been cancelled and are now rescheduled for August or later. We expect that this will impact the high quality we would like to achieve in our tournament, as qualified teams will have considerable less time to prepare for the tournament. On top of that, there is still uncertainty if Spiel can be organised as before the pandemic started. This might influence the willingness to travel to Essen for our (international) participants. Lastly, there is also a high uncertainty for us regarding the number of participating teams to cover the cost for the event room, where costs are made in advance.
Therefore we decided, in consultation with our sponsors, to cancel EuropeMasters 2021. Hopefully, things are back to normal for the EuropeMasters 2022 edition. For this 2022 edition, we will select new tournament games. We would like to thank our tournament sponsors and nominee sponsors for supporting us in these uncertain times.
