• The tournament will be held on the Saturday during SPIEL Essen, in conference room “Deutschland”. Please be on time for registration, as we have a tight time schedule to follow.
Conference room “Deutschland” is located at the conference area before Hall 1 (Entrance Süd/South, Congress Center; at the main entry, go downstairs).
Please refrain from using any different entrance!!
  • The registration fee is 60 euros per team. As we organize the event as volunteers, our goal is not to make a profit. The fee is set solely to cover our expenses.
In return, each team get a set of 4 tournament games after the tournament (and possibly some additional prizes).
Note: Food and drinks are not included in the fee. The entrance fee for SPIEL is also not included.
  • Payment is made at the start of the tournament. Please bring the exact amount in cash for your team (to avoid the need for change). We do not accept credit cards, bank cards, or online payments.
  • During the tournament, all games will be provided by the organizers. Teams do not need to bring their own copies of the tournament games.
  • Accommodation: Check in on time! It will be very crowded! SPIEL attracts many visitors from all over the world and it can be hard to find a nice affordable accommodation, if your wait too long.
  • Each team must obtain its own training copies of the games in the run-up to the tournament. We consider game availability when selecting titles. If you encounter any issues obtaining them, please let us know.
  • As this is a highly competitive tournament, all players are expected to know the rules and be familiar with the games (well in advance — so yes, weekend training camps from now on!). The level of play is consistently high — and impressively sportsmanlike. We strongly recommend that you practice thoroughly and ensure you have played each game at least three times before the event. You’ll find that with preparation, you’ll enjoy the challenge of the tournament even more.
  • Keep in mind that time is also a gameplay factor — and a limitation!!
Some games are shorter, others longer. Don’t focus solely on rules and strategy; train your gameplay speed as well. Know when you can accelerate and when you’ll need time to think. If your table falls behind, be aware that you’ll face increased time pressure in the final rounds.
  • Each team should ideally have a reserve player who is familiar with the rules and games. If you are unable to bring a reserve player, this is no problem – other teams or the organizers may be able to provide one. So, if your team size drops below 4 players due to unforeseen circumstances, please do not withdraw. Simply show up and play with a substitute from another team.
  • During tournament play, the organization will take some pictures for our sponsors. The tournament area is also open for the press.
We will do our best to minimize disruptions to your gameplay and ask for your understanding – without PR, we don’t get sponsors, and without sponsors, there is no European Championship.
  • The Europe Masters tournament is organized entirely by volunteers. Please keep this in mind – we put a lot of effort and energy into delivering a high-quality event, but we are not professionals.
  • It is not allowed to feed the referees! We want to keep them wild. 😛
