Europe Masters 2026 – A Celebration of Board Game Strategy and Community

The Europe Masters 2026 brought together 39 teams – 156 players from 17 nations – to battle for the title of European Board Game Champion. This year’s tournament gave us high-level strategic play alongside a fantastic atmosphere rooted in fair play and community.

A Truly International Field

This year’s tournament featured an impressive global lineup of participating nations: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, Serbia, Slovakia, United Kingdom.

We were thrilled to welcome Hungary as a first-time participating nation, as well as Canada, who made a long-awaited return to the Europe Masters after a 13-year absence.

Exemplary Discipline and Smooth Running

An event like this relies heavily on its participants, and we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who played. The level of sportsmanship was outstanding, and the discipline at the tables made running the event a real pleasure.

Every single game was finished well within the time limit, keeping the entire day strictly on schedule. Remarkably, for the first time ever, we operated almost entirely without the timer app—it was only called to a single table all day.

Players also handled our new venue setup with ease. Even though we were split across two rooms for the first time, everyone adapted right away, keeping the energy high and the tournament running without a hitch.

This year’s championship featured four carefully selected games, each requiring different skills and strategic depth:

These titles challenged players across four intense rounds, testing their adaptability and tactical prowess.

Special Guests & Highlights

Zara Reid and Matt Brown, authors of Kavango.
Zara and Matt gave a deeply emotional presentation on how Kavango came to life. They shared their journey from working as conservation experts to developing the initial game idea – drawing heavily on their personal experiences in Southern Africa. Even the artwork on the game cards was created from their own wildlife photography. Designed strictly with positive, rewarding mechanics, the game aims to inspire everyone to contribute to wildlife preservation. Best of all, 50% of the profits are donated to real-world conservation projects.

Carl shared the story behind his game’s design, including how he interviewed marine biologists to capture the complex relationships within the ecosystem. His signature on the game boxes was in high demand, and he left us with a memorable reminder: never run out of O₂!

The two developers shared how thrilled they were when the prototype first landed on their desks. In a turbulent world, this game offers a peaceful, magical space to unwind – right up until you realize just how tricky and strategically demanding it actually is beneath its cozy exterior.
